ECG retrieves GH¢1m from defaulting customers in Bogoso

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has retrieved GHc 1 million out of GHc2,854,247 owed by some companies in the Bogoso Municipality in the Western Region of Ghana.

The exercise was conducted by the Revenue Mobilization Taskforce of ECG where some customers were found to be in debt for some time.

Speaking about the exercise to the Ghanaian Times, the ECG communications officer in Western Region, Benjamin Quarcoo said that the Bogoso Community Mine paid GHc100,000 however, power was disconnected because the Mines still owed about GHc400,000.

The EGC Communicator further stated that a company called Long Shine company also paid GHc260,000 while Big Stone company also paid GHc290,000 out of GHc890,000.

The total amount retrieved from these companies amount to GH4 million cedis. Mr. Quarcoo advised customers to pay their bills in order not to allow the task forces to come after them.

He said the team “will move to customers to recover debts and also check the integrity of their service meters to determine whether they are paying for the right amount of energy used.”

He also  explained that “customers would either be required to pay on the spot, agree on a debt schedule for repayment or have their electricity supply disconnected.”
