Ejura Killings: Dr Bawumia Supports Each Bereaved Family With GHS20,000

The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has supported each bereaved family with Ghc20,000 following the killing of three persons in Ejura in the Ashanti Region

Several others who sustained gunshot injuries were given 10,000 Ghana cedis.

The two leaders met the bereaved families, traditional leaders, youth and opinion leaders of the community as part of efforts to restore calm.

Dr Bawumia, Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu and the National Security Minister, Albert Kan Dapaah later visited the Ejura Traditional Council and the Chief of Ejura was unhappy with the recent disturbances in the area.

He said the Traditional Council has decided to construct a Divisional Police Command Office to enhance security.

However, the three persons who were arrested in connection with the murder of Ibrahim(Kaaka) have been remanded into police custody by the Asokwa District Court in Kumasi.

The presiding judge Akua Adu Boahen was convinced after the Prosecutor Chief Superintendent Kofi Blagodzie prayed the court for more time to investigate the matter.

The suspects, Issaka Ibrahim aka Anyars, Fuseini Alhassan, and Iddi Mohammed who is the brother of Kaaka appeared at the Asokwa district court 1 at around 10:30 am Friday, July 2.

The three were charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, murder and the Presiding judge remanded them into police custody to reappear on July 22, 2021, after the Prosecutor had convinced the court that the case has a national interest.

The killing at Ejura has caused the job of the Municipal Chief Executive, Mohammed Bamba because he has been asked to leave his post and hand it over to the Ashanti Regional Minister with immediate effect, pending the appointment of a new MCE.

The decision to remove the MCE was part of measures to calm tensions and avoid further escalations following the killing of protestors by security forces on Monday.
