The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed a report by Fitch Solutions, a London-based firm, predicting a likely win for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December Polls.
The report, which has been consistent in its forecast since last year, suggests that 54% of respondents surveyed believe former President John Mahama will emerge victorious.
Fitch Solutions attributes this prediction to the current state of the economy, which it believes will significantly influence voters’ decisions on December 7.
In an interview with Citi News, NPP’s Deputy General Secretary, Haruna Mohammed, expressed disagreement with the report’s findings, stating that while the party respects the report, it will review the findings closely to determine its next steps.
Haruna Mohammed highlighted that other research reports have shown Dr Bawumia leading in the polls, contradicting Fitch Solutions’ prediction.
He acknowledged that the report cites job creation and economic management as key factors, but argued that the NPP has a superior record in economic management.
He emphasised that the party will examine the report but maintained that predictions are not cast in stone.
“We have just seen a report from Fitch indicating that they are putting John Mahama ahead of us and this is not the first research findings that we have seen. We have seen several other research reports that point to the fact that Dr. Bawumia is in the lead in terms of winning these elections. This is not cast a stone or the finality in terms of research work.”
“However, as a party, we welcome their reports and we will look at what is contained in the report and what informed their decision to have given an NDC such a high percentage that they have never gotten in history.”
