In a historic victory, Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, the Parliamentary Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has won the Dome Kwabenya constituency, overturning what was long considered a stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The results, announced late Sunday night after a tightly contested election, showed Akurugu securing 51,634 votes, narrowly defeating the NPP candidate, Mike Oquaye Jr., who garnered 50,477 votes.
Akurugu’s victory marks a significant milestone as it is the first time the NDC has claimed the Dome Kwabenya seat, a constituency that has traditionally been a bastion of the NPP.
Beyond Dome Kwabenya, the NPP suffered additional losses of historically significant seats to the NDC, including key constituencies such as Adansi Asokwa, Sekondi, and others.
