Employ innovative methods to generate internal funds – Titus-Glover to MMDCEs

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, has urged all Metropolitan Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to employ innovative methods to raise internally generated funds.

This follows a revelation at the Regional Coordinating Council’s inaugural meeting in Accra that the council has generated GH¢117 million out of a target of GH¢294 million in internally generated funds as of May.

In an interview with the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Titus-Glover, on the sidelines of the inaugural meeting, he explained that although the target has not yet been met, MMDCEs should implement innovative strategies to achieve it.

“Some are doing well, some are not, and those who are not doing well are typically Ayawaso East, there’s no factory there, and there’s no serious activity there. Basically what they generate is what they report on.

“So, we should look at how we can make the revenue generation a bit more manageable so that people can have the willingness to pay.

“If you set it up too high, that is where it scares people, so, when you make it a bit more moderate, where you can get the turnover so faster, it can help you generate revenue more.

“When you go to places like Shai, no serious activity is going on there. Basically, we have a long way to go, we need to develop a strategy that we can use to generate more revenue,” the Greater Accra Regional Minister said.
