EPL: Arsenal Spurn Chance To Move Eight Points Clear

Arsenal failed spurned the chance to move eight points clear at the summit of the Premier League following a 1-1 stalemate with Brentford on Saturday.

Mikel Arteta started with same starting XI that lost to Everton at Goodison Park — they dominated the first but failed to create clear-cut chances as Brentford missed their fair share opportunities to take the lead.

Arsenal took the lead when substitute Leandro Trossard struck at the back post four minutes after coming off the bench to register his first goal the Gunners.

Brentford relentlessness paid off deservedly when Toney headed in Christian Norgaard’s cross from close range.

But the goal needed a Video Assistant Referee check following a possible offside in the build-up but it was eventually confirmed.

Arsenal made frantic efforts in the closing stages including seven minutes of added time as they hunt for the winner but the visitors held firmly for a vital point.

With a win on Sunday, Man City would have reduced the deficit to only three points before the top-of-the-table clash between the two sides.
