EPL: Arsenal Stroll Past Spurs To Extend Lead To Eight Points

Arsenal romped to a 2-0 win in the north London derby to go eight points clear at the summit of the Premier League.

The Gunners finished the job in the first half with goalkeeper Hugo Lloris’s horrible blunder setting the tone for a long afternoon for Spurs before Martin Odigaard doubled the lead with a long range effort.

Arsenal capitalised on defending champions Manchester City’s defeat at Old Trafford to stretch their lead and further improve their chances of annexing the Premier League for the first time in 19 years.

Tottenham’s captain Lloris’s retirement from the French national team could do little to his recent stuttering in post as he scored an own goal for Arsenal’s opener — Saka dazzled his way to Spurs’s byline and his cross deflected off Ryan Sessegnon and confused Lloris, who surprisingly parried the ball into his own net.

Just when Conte’s side were pushing hard for the equaliser, captain Odigaard led by example with an excellent strike from 25 yards eight minutes before the break to stretch the game beyond the host.

Meanwhile there were ugly scenes at full-time as a fan appeared to have jumped onto the advertising hoardings behind the post and kicked Aaron Ramsdale but Arteta was able to lead his players away from the scene.
