Over 80 store structures have been razed down by fire at Kasoa New Market in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region on Sunday Morning destroying items worth millions of cedis.
Information gathered revealed that the inferno started around 7am on Sunday, August 25, 2024 initially from two stores and later spread through.
According to the Market Security man Mr. Joseph Amoah who spoke to the media, he was on his daily morning routine when he heard a blast from one of the shops. They rushed to the exact store only to find it on high flame.
A call was then made to the Fire service but it took hours before their arrival. The fire service upon arrival quenched the fire with the help from the youth around.
Things sold the stores that have been burnt are mats, red oil, bags of rice, culpot and others.
The NADMO Coordinator for Joemens-Kpometey Area, Mr. Christopher Appiah on his part asserted that the unspacious status of the market made it very difficult for the fire service to go through with their tender upon their arrival.
He also called on the traders to desist from act of cooking and sleeping in their stores as this act maybe the lead cause of the fire outbreak.
Lastly the Municipal Chief Executive of Awutu Senya East, Hon. Anita Obo Love Amissah commended the fire service and the youth for help to salvage the situation.
She however assured that her outfit will collaborate with other stakeholders to support the fire Victims.
