The fourth edition of the Fish Festival has opened in Accra with an exhibition of fish products and deliberations on promoting sustainable fisheries and aquaculture sector.
The two-day event is on the theme:”Developing Ghana’s Blue Economy for Sustainable Fisheries Management and National Development “
Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development also member of Parliament for Trobo, Moses Anim said the event is also celebrate the of fishermen and fish processors.
He said it was important to manage fisheries resources sustainably to ensure continuous contribution to socio-economic development of fishers and the nation.
The fishing sector, he said, was currently confronted with challenges such as climate change, pollution of water bodies with plastic waste, illegal mining and illegal fishing practices which were all impacting negatively on the sector.
President of the Inland fish Mongers Association of Ghana, Esi Awolo called on government to aid the Fisher folks financially because year has not fruitful for them.
She added that government should do everything possible to complete Eastern corridor road for the them to help reduce the challenges they face especially during night.
“Because of the bad Nature of the Eastern corridor road Armed rubbers to attacked us on the road when we aregoingto sell goods(fish)” she said.
