Black Stars must reignite their fighting spirit as AFCON qualifiers heat up, says Okraku
Ghana FA President Kurt Okraku has lashed out at the current crop of Black Star players, saying they sometimes lack honesty, passion and desire to wear the national team jersey.
He cited how this played out in the 1-1 draw against Niger in the last international game.
For him, about four or five of the players who played in that game cannot command a first-team place in his club.
“You drew 1-1 against Niger. That was the scoreline. No joke. 1-1 against Niger. Four or five of the players who played in that squad, sorry, cannot play in my club. That is the truth,” he said.
To him, there was no passion nor energy on the part of the Ghanaian players in that game.
“It is not possible like this.
“The minimum I or Ghana expects is a team of boys or men who will show passion and desire to play for our country.”
Ghana, who have picked up just one point from two games in 2025 AFCON Qualifiers, find themselves in a precarious position in Group F, trailing behind Angola and Sudan, and face a tough path to qualification for next year’s tournament in Morocco.
Ghana’s doubleheader against Sudan kicks off on October 10 at the Accra Sports Stadium, with the return leg scheduled for October 15 in Libya.
