Free SHS should be reviewed immediately – Palmer Buckle to gov’t

Free SHS Programme

A free senior high school policy must be reviewed immediately, says Most Reverend Charles Palmer-Buckle.

Though the Free SHS program has helped many parents, he believes the government should reconsider its implementation via stakeholder involvement to ensure that all impediments are addressed.

“I wholeheartedly support free SHS. The free SHS must now be reviewed by stakeholders, he added.

Because of the free SHS policy, parents, according to the Archbishop, have neglected to pay their children’s school costs

“They told the government and blame it,” he claimed.

Many stakeholders, including members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), parents, and teachers, have applauded and criticized the program since its adoption.

Cape Coast’s Catholic Archbishop said the free SHS policy might be simplified to improve education.

According to Rev. Ntim Fordjour, Deputy Education Minister and Member of Parliament for the Assin South Constituency, all stakeholders must work together to execute the free SHS program.
