A.B. Crentsil

Highlife legend Alfred Benjamin Crentsil finally goes home on the 6th of November 2022.

On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, the artist who was well known for his famous songs Devil, Atia, Juliana, I Go Pay You Tomorrow, Papa Shamo, and Ayen among other songs, passed away at The Bank Hospital in Accra.

One of the “big three” contemporary Western Region artists from Ghana was AB Crentsil, born in Prestea in 1943.

He received many accolades for his music in Ghana, including the Fontomfrom Evergreen Award, a particular honor given to a performer with 15 to 20 years of nonstop music-making.

He attended Takoradi Methodist Primary and Rev. Cleveland Middle School for his elementary and middle school studies, respectively.

After passing his middle school exams, he began working as an electrical apprentice for his father, who was the works superintendent of Ghana Railways’ technical branch in Takoradi.

Mr. Thedoh introduced AB Crentsil to the guitar when he was a middle school student. As AB Crentsil developed his guitar playing skills, he began to sing along as he played.

AB Crentsil’s funeral celebration will come off at Community 8, No 2 School Park.
