According to multiple reports Gerard Pique has accepted a pay cut at Barcelona as the club tries to meander its way through financial crisis.
The defender has agreed with the board to forgo the pay rise in his deal this year, with club president Josep Maria Bartomeu in the thick of things. The Spaniard will earn less as he decided to stick to earlier terms in his deal until 2024.
Pique led the way as Ter Stegen, Lenglet and Frenkie de Jong joined. The Dutch midfielder’s bit is however becoming complicated at the moment.
The last contract Pique signed under Bartomeu is reported to be around €28 million euros, with a bonus of 12m euros if he completed the deal.
However, the born and bread Catalan has decided to sacrifice his check for the greater good of the club.
Pique has fallen down the pecking order as Araujo, Kounde, Eric and Christensen join him in fighting for a place in Xavi’s defense.
