Ghana among top countries with best digitally delivered service exports

Akufo-Addo

Ghana, Morocco, and South Africa accounted for over half of the sub-Saharan region’s exports of digitally delivered services, according to the latest estimates from the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The WTO report, which analysed trade data from 2022 to 2023, positions Ghana as the leading exporter of digitally delivered services on the African continent, with exports valued at $6.2 billion in 2022.

This represents a 19% share of the regional market. The report further projects a significant increase in Ghana’s digital service exports in 2024, following a remarkable 30% growth in the previous year.

This surge is attributed to the government’s sustained efforts to strengthen the digital economy. While infrastructure development remains uneven across the continent, significant progress has been made, with almost half of Africa now benefiting from improved connectivity.

However, the report emphasizes that further advancements in digital services will require complementary policy and regulatory reforms.

These reforms must ensure that digital communications remain affordable, citizens acquire critical digital and entrepreneurial skills, and businesses are positioned to capitalize on emerging opportunities in the digital economy.
