Ghana has no billionaire- Forbes latest rich list shows

Despite several names of known businessmen being bandied around as Billionaires in Ghana, Forbes latest research reveals that there is none like it in the country.

According to the latest rich list for Africa released by Forbes magazine on January 30 2023, only seven countries out of Africa’s fifty-four countries have billionaires – dollar billionaires. There are 19 Africa-based billionaires. And Ghana has no billionaire.

Six of these billionaires are based in Egypt, five operate businesses in South Africa, three are in Nigeria, two in Morocco, and one is Zimbabwe-based, another one is in Algeria, and yet another is in Tanzania.

Out of these, Nigerian business mogul Aliko Dangote remains the richest person in Africa. He is however the 138th richest in the world.

On how the magazine defined a rich person as African, Forbes stated: “Our list tracks the wealth of African billionaires who reside in Africa or have their primary business there, thus excluding Sudanese-born billionaire Mo Ibrahim, who is a U.K. citizen, South African Nathan Kirsh, who operates out of London and another billionaire London resident, Mohamed Al-Fayed, an Egyptian citizen. Strive Masiyiwa, a citizen of Zimbabwe and a London resident, appears on the list due to his telecom holdings in Africa.”
