The Black Galaxies of Ghana have qualified to the final round of the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) after edging Benin 1-0 in the 2nd leg of the preliminary round qualifiers on Saturday afternoon.
The Squirrels made their intentions clear right from kickoff seeking to upset the Black Galaxies but Coach Annor Walker’s men nullified every threat that was thrown at them.
In the first half, Phobia duo, Afriyie Barnieh and Gladson Awako were on hand to test the Squirrels keeper but he kept their efforts at bay. The Squirrels equally matched the Galaxies in midfield but Razak Kassim and Dominic Nsobila did a wonderful job by providing the needed shield for the backline.
Afriyie Barnieh netted the only goal of the match in the dying embers to seal the victory for Ghana. The win means the Black Galaxies have progressed to the next round of qualifiers on a 4-0 aggregate following a 3-0 win in the 1st leg at the Cape Coast stadium.
Ghana will now face sworn rivals Nigeria in the final round in search of a ticket to the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) in Algeria, a tourney they have failed to appear since 2014 when Ghana finished 2nd in South Africa.
