Ghana Slumps To Comfortable Defeat To USA In World Cup Opener

The Black Princesses of Ghana has lost 3-0 to USA in their opening group D game in the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.

The Black Princesses conceded two goals in the first half — one in the opening minutes and one late into the first half. The third came in the 52nd minute as Ghana slumped to a comfortable defeat at the Estadio Alejandro Morera.

Michelle Cooper put USA ahead inside 11 minutes before Alyssa Thompson doubled the lead in the 38th minute. Jacqueline Owusu’s first half red card culminated a difficult first 45 minutes for the Princesses.

Ben Fokuo brought on Mukarama Abdulai for Sharon Sampson and Louisa Aniwaa for Cecilia Nyama in the second half as Ghana pushed to get back into the game.

Ally Sentnor extended the lead in 52nd minute to take the game beyond Ghana’s reach.

The Black Princesses continued to push forward for a consolation but USA held on to win 3:0 as Ghana begun the tournament with a false start. The result leaves Ghana bottom of Group D after match Day One.

Ghana will play Japan in their second group match at the Estadio Alejandro Morera on Sunday, August 14, at 17:00 GMT
