The MP for Banda, Ahmed Ibrahim, has said that Minister for Communications and Digitalization Ursula Owusu-Ekuful cannot control Ghana’s fate despite the fact that the deadline for SIM card re-registration has passed.
When asked whether Ursula Owusu could legally disable Ghanaian SIM cards, he responded no.
It won’t be safe for Ghana if Ursula Owusu-Ekuful follows through on her blocking threat,” Ahmed Ibrahim stated on the Accra-based Neat FM.
Someone obviously placed her there, and she must know it. She can’t control what happens to Ghana.
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful had already issued a warning that the deadline for SIM card registration in Ghana will not be extended for a third time.
Since more over 7.5 million citizens and residents had not yet obtained their Ghana Card, the sector Ministry extended the deadline for the activity, which had begun on October 1, 2021, to September 1, 2022.
Telecommunications firms are no longer required to block calls from users who have not registered their SIM cards after the National Communications Authority (NCA) rescinded its prior rule.
Since the NCA issued its new regulation, telecoms have allowed calls from users who haven’t yet completed SIM card registration.
