Georginio Wijnaldum dream of representing his country at the World Cup in Qatar is hanging in the balance after the midfielder broke his leg in training on Sunday.
“Following an injury sustained during training, Gini underwent medical that confirmed the presence of a fracture to the tibia”. Roma announced.
The Serie A side did say how long Gini will be out but if the aforementioned injury is anything to go by the Dutch international will likely not be ready before the World Cup.
He will undergo further assessments in the coming days to ascertain how long it will take for the champions league winner to recover.
The former Liverpool midfielder joined Roma on loan from Paris St-Germain a fortnight ago.
Wijnaldum has earned over seventy caps since making his debut in 2011, and was a member of the squad which finished third at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and runners-up in the 2018–19 UEFA Nations League.
The Dutch are in Group A at the World Cup, which begins on 20 November, along with Senegal, Ecuador and hosts Qatar.
