The Ghana Private Road Transport Union(GPRTU) has appealed to drivers in the country to drive with caution during the Easter festivities to prevent road accidents.
A Senior Relations officer of the Greater Accra Branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union(GPRTU),Alhaji Abass Moro Ibrahim in an interview with Obaatampa radio he said it is necessary for the Union to remind drivers about the need to promote road safety during such festivities.
He advised drivers to be mindful about road signs,avoid over-speeding, drunk driving, fatigue driving, overloading of vehicles and the use of mobile phones while driving.
“Let’s drive safely by abiding by traffic regulations and arrived home alive,”he opined.
Alhaji Abass seized the opportunity to call on the Regional command of the Motor Transport and Traffic Department( MTTD) to he enforce LI 2180 regulation 121 to GPRTU serve Ghanaians better.
“The regulations 121 (2180) indicate that no person shall operate as a commercial vehicle driver unless that person is employed by or belongs to a commercial road transport organization”.
On the recent dropped on Petroleum products, Alhaji Abass said the Union will not rush into a reduction on transportation fares until all the components that contribute to increase in transport fares are reduced.
The recent fall has led to incessant calls by Ghanaians for commercial drivers to reduce their fares.
“If any member of the public is expecting a reduction in transport fares following the recent reduction in fuel prices, that person should forget it for now” he said.
