The Coordinating Director of Gomoa East District Assembly (GEDA), Samuel Kittah has encourage Ghanaians to practice tree planting in their various homes and backyard gardens since tree plays a crucial role in maintaining good environment.
The Coordinating Director of GEDA today on behalf of District Chief Executive Hon. Solomon Quarm led some officers of the Assembly, Assembly members, students to plant over 10,000 trees in Gomoa East to commemorate 2024 Green Ghana Day.
The Green Ghana Day was instituted by the government in 2021 through the Ministry of Lands, and Natural Resources, as part of an aggressive national afforestation programme to restore the lost forest cover of the country and to contribute to the global effort to mitigate climate change.
The Coordinating Director for Gomoa East District Assembly addressing the press said, the Assembly received over 10,000 seedlings and are keen to plant all the seedlings at the demarcated areas.
He praised President Nana Addo for the initiative which he believes is the right response to addressing climate change and its debilitating effect.
He encourage Ghanaians to practice the tree planting in their homes and avert from inappropriate cutting down of trees.
