Hearts Pip Kotoko To Win 2023 President Cup

Accra Hearts of Oak have beaten Kumasi Asante Kotoko 1-0 in the Super Clash to win the 2023 President’s Cup at the Accra Sports Stadium on the eve of of Ghana’s 66th independence anniversary.

The Phobians also claimed a GH¢50,000 cash prize plus three maximum points as the game was originally a betPawa Premier League fixture.

With little over 5,000 spectators including the number one gentleman of the land President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the stands, Hearts of Oak marched to victory.

They were unfazed by the low attendance as they dominated and pipped their fiercest rivals to win the bragging rights, cash prize, three points and a trophy on top. 

Konadu Yiadom’s towering header separated the two sides — the defender jumped above everyone inside the box before connecting from Seidu Suraj’s free-kick to put the Never Say Die boys ahead after 56 minutes of action. 

Asante Kotoko made frantic efforts to rally themselves back into the contest but to no avail, with a last minute penalty call turned down by the referee as Hearts held on until the final whistle.

The win has earned Hearts a move to fourth spot (31 points) with Aduana Stars sitting comfortably at the summit of the league table with 36 points.
