Ghanaian transgender musician and activist Angel Maxine has launched a scathing attack on Sam George, the MP for Ningo-Prampram, over his role in pushing for the anti-gay bill in parliament.
In a video posted on her Instagram account, Angel Maxine accused Sam George of being an incompetent and hypocritical politician who has supposedly done nothing for his constituency and the youth of Ghana.
She also claimed that she knew Sam George from the past, when he used to follow former Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram, the Late Enoch Teye Mensah around “like a puppet”.
“Yes, I have changed, so you will not recognise me. Sam George, or whatever you call yourself. Who do you think you are? (Laughs) Who the hell do you think you are? Who is Sam George? Who is that idiot, who thinks he can dictate to Ghanaians. Oh! You think I don’t know you? You think I don’t remember you? I remember those days when you used to follow E.T Mensah around like a puppet. Do you remember Apeku? King’s bar in Prampram. Apeku who is dead. Do you remember him?” she said.
Angel Maxine also criticised Sam George for his lack of achievements, his involvement in championing the anti-gay bill and his alleged failure to address the economic and social challenges facing his constituents and Ghanaians.
“You Sam George, you are all over the place like an Ashawo who just wants to be noticed. Who is that goat. Sam George, name your achievements. Name some of the things you have established in Ghana. What jobs have you created in Ghana? What jobs have you created in Ningo Prampram. Even Prampram you cannot fix it. Do you see how useless you are as a politician? What is in your name. All that ku ku ku ku ku ku ku ka ka that you Sam George you are doing, Ranting around and shouting around like a crazy dog, use that energy to save the falling economy. Use that energy to save the hardship in Ghana. Use that energy to dispose off the dirt on the streets of ningo-prampram. The seas are choking. Use that energy to clean the sea. Use that energy to fix your constituency. Sam George, you are fighting for this bill to pass because of your predecessor,” she said.
Angel Maxine also slammed Sam George and other MPs who are supporting the anti-gay bill, which seeks to criminalise various aspects of homosexuality, including its promotion, advocacy, funding, and the acts themselves. She said that the bill was a violation of human rights and a distraction from the real issues facing the country.
“Sam George, you want to do yourself like you are the hero. Save the rotten Ghanaian economy, save the economy that is falling on Ghanaians, save the economy that is drowning Ghanaians. All you politicians who are sponsoring this bill and supporting this bill, you should bow your heads in shame. Or you think I have not met gay MPs? You think I have not seen gay politicians?” she said.
Angel Maxine also threatened to expose the alleged homosexuality of some politicians, saying that she had evidence of their chats and activities. She said that she had given copies of the evidence to her lawyer, a loud influencer in Ghana and a human rights lawyer in America for safe keeping.
“All you useless old politicians, all your chats are with me. All your chats they are with me and I will expose you. I have printed everything here, these are all the politician, all the big men who are gay men. You are all here. I have given one to my lawyer, I have given one to a loud influencer in Ghana and I have given one to a human right’s lawyer in America for safe keeping. Because I will make sure that, some of you loose your seats. You said you are wicked, eh, I will show you what wickedness is. That dignity you are trying to protect today, you will lose it tomorrow,” she said.
Angel Maxine is a Ghanaian musician who is known as the first openly transgender Ghanaian musician. She has released songs such as “Wo Fie”, “Kill The Bill” and “Prep” that advocate for LGBT+ rights in Ghana.
The anti-gay bill, officially known as the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill 2021, has sparked controversy and outrage among human rights activists, civil society groups and foreign diplomats. The bill is currently under consideration by the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee of parliament.
Sam George is the MP for Ningo-Prampram and the primary sponsor of the bill. He has argued that homosexuality is not a human right but a lifestyle choice. He has also warned against foreign interference.
The Independent Ghana has not been able to verify the claims made by Angel Maxine. Sam George has not responded to the video as of the time of writing this article.
