Actor and politician John Setor Dumelo has stirred up social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter), with his recent remarks about Ghana’s controversial “Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill,” commonly known as the “anti-gay bill.”
Critics online have accused the actor and aspiring parliamentarian of being indecisive regarding the issue, sparking heated discussions among netizens.
The bill, currently undergoing review in Ghana’s Parliament and awaiting presidential approval, has garnered both domestic and international criticism over concerns about potential human rights violations.
In a recent interview on Star FM, Dumelo expressed his alignment with the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s stance on the bill, highlighting the party’s commitment to safeguarding “family values” in Ghana.
“I stand with the NDC, they have passed the antiLGBTQ+bill so that’s my position. I am not against what they do in their bedroom, its their private life,” John Dumelo stated.
However, he refrained from explicitly stating his personal position, citing a desire to respect individual privacy.
