Ghanaian artist Gregory Nii Bortey Newman, better known by his stage name King Promise, has responded to claims made by his detractors on social media that he would eventually become bankrupt and ask Ghanaians for money.
King Promise admitted that he spends a lot of money on himself since he is an expensive brand and wants to present himself as such during an interview with Deloris Frimpong Manso on the Delay Show.
He acknowledged that he positions himself such that those who enjoy his music and craftsmanship will highly regard him.
He added that he only buys things he can afford in order to make himself appear expensive and extremely desirable, so he is not under any obligation to live up to anyone’s standards.
King Promise implied further that he hesitates before spending money, therefore he wouldn’t want to impress his admirers on social media by blowing all of his cash on opulent jewelry.
“I know where I come from, I use my head when I’m doing anything. If I didn’t have much in my account to buy these things, I wouldn’t do it. I won’t spend all my saving to come and impress people I might not even know who are just on the internet”, he said.
“At the end of the day, I have a family to feed, I have a career to build and I have a future to build as well so I won’t wake up and just buy anything and at the end of the day whatever I do is for my craft because I’m a brand and I need to invest in my brand”, he added.
