The former president John Dramani Mahama has called for the public funding towards the building of National Cathedral to stop.
According to the former president, the situation of the economy is so hard that calling people to contribute towards such a project is certainly a misplaced priority.
He said the project should be subjected to value for money, saying that the estimated 400 million dollars for the project is gargantuan.
John Dramani Mahama said he is also a staunch Christian who believe in the idea of building a National Cathedral, but for the purpose of priorities, the contribution towards building of the National Cathedral should stop and the monies invested in the project, tailored towards other immediate projects that will revamp the economy.
He said the average Ghanaian now need to survive first before anything else. He said the benefits of the national cathedral which is purported to be long term, will not help the today’s Ghanaian who is struggling for a daily bread.
