I’m not in a good shape- Asamoah Gyan rules himself out of Qatar World Cup

Asamoah Gyan

Despite the cacophony of noises that filled the media space suggesting that Asamoah Gyan could make a sensational return to the Black Stars ahead of the world Cup to be staged in Qatar, the legendary striker has ruled himself out.

When he sat down with ace broadcaster and sports journalist Fiifi Banson in the studios of GHOne, Gyan said he’s not in the best of shape to have the last dance in Qatar and obviously bring the curtains down on his illustrious international career.

Clarifying his stance on whether he wanted to influence the final selection of the team hinged on the vigorous training he started to get in shape as stipulated in various videos shared online Gyan said;

“The World Cup is every footballer’s dream. If I’m fit to play active football and I’m invited to play for the national team, why not. It’s not like 15 years ago when I was young and competitive and could argue to be in the starting line-up.

“This is a different thing together. Right now people want you to go in and show your experience. The thing is you just have to be fit and be ready for competitive football.

If I’m fit and invited into the national team, why not? Every player will embrace such an opportunity. This is the case where I’m not ready now. If I’m not ready but the FA and staff feel they need me now, I will be available. That one is up to them”, he stressed.
