Ningo Prampram Member of Parliament Samuel Nartey George has hinted the SIM re-registration exercise will definitely be extended and added that the government is only bluffing when they pegged the deadline to July 31, 2022.

The deadline was put forward by the Minister of Communications and Digitalization, Madam Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, who initially extended it from March 31st to July 31st.

“More time will be required to update the SIM Registration App for the registration of diplomats, while a Self-Service SIM Registration App is also being developed to facilitate registration of SIM cards for Ghanaians resident abroad.

This will be operational by mid-April,” a statement issued by Madam Owusu-Ekuful to this effect was disseminated to the populace said on Tuesday, March 22.

Then again, she emphasised it in Kumasi on July 22 while addressing a forum. But NDC’s Sam George has said this is not true.

Taking his turn on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday, July 30, Sam George said “What she said in Kumasi is just talk, it is not true, she will extend it.”

He then pointed out the anomalies in the exercise which include system inefficiency which has not made it possible for a lot of Ghanaians to register.

Also, he said, there are long queues at the registration centres making it cumbersome for people to register.

“You haven’t resolved all these and you are going to punish them for your inefficiency, is that not arbitrary? Is that not capricious?” he quizzed.
