Ghanaian midfielder Sulley Muniru has announced his retirement from the sport at the age of 29.
Former Ghana national team player Sulley Muntari’s younger brother, Muniru, has retired from the sport, as stated on his official Instagram profile.
The 29-year-old made 22 appearances for FC Minsk in the 2021/22 campaign, scoring twice.
Before signing with the Belarusian club, Muniru had a brief time with the Ghanaian powerhouse Asante Kotoko.
Even though Muniru has announced his retirement from football, he still plans to stay involved in the sport in other ways.
Muniru got his start playing soccer with the Ashanti Akim Missiles youth club in his native Konongo. Later, he joined Liberty Professionals’ junior squad.
Muniru inked his first professional deal with the Romanian club CFR Cluj during the January transfer window of 2013.
Having signed a four-year deal with FCSB in June 2015, Muniru was acquired by the Romanian champions for an unknown amount. In the second leg of the Champions League second qualifying round, he scored his first goal for the club, against AS Trenn.
His next club, Tondela, saw him make four appearances and provide an assist.
This player officially signed with FC Tambov of the Russian Premier League on August 15, 2019. Only once did he suit up for the Russian squad.
At no cost to himself, Muniru signed a two-year deal with Asante Kotoko on November 2, 2020. After making five appearances for the team, he departed on January 22, 2021.
