Patrick Osei Agyemang, also known as Countryman Songo, a former member of the management committee of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, led by Nana Yaw Amponsah, has criticized coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, accusing him of engaging in politics and hypocrisy.
Reacting to the club’s release of over 18 players, Countryman Songo claimed that the players are being ‘punished’ due to their association with Nana Yaw Amponsah.
He alleged that Dr. Ogum is projecting his personal issues with Nana Yaw Amponsah on the players, assuming that the players owe allegiance to Amponsah.
Countryman Songo warned Dr. Ogum to be cautious with his actions, as he believes life will reciprocate the treatment he is subjecting the players to.
“Nana Yaw Amponsah brought him to Kotoko and made him a league winner as a coach. The players who have now been released were part of the squad that won him his first league title as a coach.
“He engaged in politics and ostracized them because he thought they were Nana Yaw Amponsah’s players and would not perform for the team, but these players are professionals. He referred to them as senior players, yet they were signed by Nana Yaw Amponsah.
“Initially, he favored the players he brought to the club, but when he realized they were not performing, he reverted to the seasoned players signed by Nana Yaw. He has nothing to offer Kotoko.
“All he does is engage in politics and hypocrisy. Karma will deal with him. Kotoko endured a struggling season because of politics. The coach doesn’t have solid plans for the team, so they will continue to struggle,” he stated on his Adom TV show.
Asante Kotoko, on June 18, 2024, announced the release of eleven players following the conclusion of the 2023/2024 Ghana football season.
The following day, the club also announced the release of seven more players, bringing the total number of players dismissed by the club to eighteen.
