KASOA: 3 FEAR DEAD AFTER STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION COLLAPSE ON THEM. 

Three people have met their untimely death after a two storey building under construction collapsed on them at Kasoa Asempa Down near New Market in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.

A carpenter and two other vocational school students have been confirmed dead after a storey building they are working on collapse on them.

In interview with some eyewitnesses, they revealed that, they workers were doing concrete works on the second floor when the building collapsed.

The eyewitness said, the carpenter died on the spot while the remaining two ladies died while on their way to the Hospital.

Further investigations have it that the masons working on the building had complain of a fault on the base of the building hence the call for the presence of the carpenter to help with some patching. The building belongs to one woman operating a vocational school. The owner had tasked the vocational students to send some woods and fetch water to help the contractors.

Many of the vocational students were trapped under the collapse building but the presence of the emergency response team like the NADMO, Fire Service, Police, Immigration and other security forces led to rescue reducing the number of casualties.

Four people are currently in critical condition receiving treatment at Central Kasoa Clinic and Mother and Child Hospital at Kasoa. About 15 people including vocational students and the masons have been treated and discharged.

 

The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East Constituency Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson, Municipal Chief Executive of Awutu Senya East Municipality Hon. Anita Obo Love Amissah and other opinion leaders have visited the scene.

On his part, the NADMO Coordinator for Joemens-Kpometey Area, Mr. Appiah Christopher bemoaned shoddy work which was been executed by the contractors as he says it may be the lead cause of the building collapse.

He added that people fail to come to the Assembly for permit before building and when they start to build, they will be playing hide and seek with authorities. He alleged that the collapsed building had no building permit from the Assembly.

 

Meanwhile, the Assemblyman for Joe-men – Kpomotey Electoral Area, Mustapha Mohammed, expressed shock at the incident.
