KASOA SHOOTING: HAWA KOOMSON WAS ARRESTED AND DETAINED IN 2020.. NPP CLEARS AIR

The New Patriotic Party in the Awutu Senya East Constituency has cleared the air that the Member of Parliament for the Constituency and Minister of Fisheries and Acqua-Culture Development, Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson was arrested and detained in 2020 when she pulled out a gun and fired warning shots.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Kasoa Base Radio station Obaatanpa Radio 92.5, the Campaign Manager for Hawa Koomson, Mr. Emmanuel Kojo Afram Anim noted that he accompanied the Police when when Hawa Koomson was arrested in 2020.

There was a confrontation at a registration centre in the constituency on Monday, July 20, 2020, which led to gunshots being fired and motorbikes being burnt.

There were reports that the Electoral Commission (EC) officials fled from the scene following the altercation.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) subsequently accused Hawa Koomson of being behind the violence in the area.

Hawa Koomson subsequently confessed she fired the warning shot in self-defense.

On Sunday dawn 2nd June, 2024 while a vote transfer exercise was ongoing, there was misunderstanding at Kasoa EC’s District Office located at Jei River which escalated leading to the stabbing of Hawa Koomson’s son Ato Koomson with many other obtaining injuries, one suspected NDC thug was arrested for stabbing Ato Koomson.

The NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Awutu Senya East, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunnor was subsequently arrested and detained for illegal possession of fire arms at the Kasoa EC’s office.

The NDC following their Parliamentary Candidate’s arrested has accused the police of being unjust as they claim Hawa Koomson was not arrested in 2020 when she pulled out a gun at registration Centre.

Meanwhile Mr. Afram Anim who is the Campaign Manager for Hawa Koomson says it is never true Hawa Koomson was never arrested as he calls on the NDC to stop peddling lies.
