Kpando Torkor residents relieved as repaired ferry resumes service

Kpando Torkor

Residents of Kpando Torkor and surrounding communities can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the ferry, which broke down three months ago, has been repaired and is back in operation.

The ferry, a critical link across the Volta Lake, had been out of service, forcing residents to endure difficult and risky travel conditions during the downtime.

For three months, travellers were left with no choice but to rely on smaller, often overcrowded boats, which posed significant safety risks.

The absence of the ferry disrupted economic activities, particularly for traders and farmers who depend on it to transport goods to markets across the lake.

With the ferry now operational, residents have expressed immense satisfaction with the return of safe and reliable transportation.

However, residents are calling for more proactive measures to avoid similar disruptions in the future.

They are appealing for the establishment of a maintenance workshop at Kpando Torkor to ensure quicker repairs whenever the ferry breaks down.

Joshua Amenyogbe is the Assembly member for the Kpando Torkor electoral area.

“I plead with the government to help us by building a new landing port because the one that we had has submerged, making life unbearable for us. I will also plead with them to establish a fitting shop to enable quick repairs anytime it breaks down.”

He also expressed his gratitude to the key stakeholders who played a crucial role in the success of the project.

“Special thanks to Channel One TV and Citi FM for consistently reporting on our issues that yielded good results. I also thank the government and the appropriate authorities for their timely intervention, because it is now safe to travel on the Volta Lake to Afram Plains.”
