Kofi Bentil, Senior Vice President of IMANI Africa, has called on those advocating for the dismissal of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, to cease such efforts.
Amid calls for the IGP’s removal over issues related to the 2024 general elections, Bentil urged critics in a Facebook post on December 20, 2024, to focus on supporting the police service rather than undermining its leadership.
He emphasized the critical role Dr. Dampare has played in maintaining peace and stability during the elections, describing attempts to remove him as counterproductive.
Bentil commended the IGP’s exceptional leadership, noting that his decisive actions were instrumental in preserving national peace during a crucial period.
“I am breaking my FB [Facebook] leave again to tell all those crazy people attempting to upset the safety and security of Ghana that this nation belongs to us all and you cannot force yourself on anyone without severe consequences!!! Leave Dr Dampare alone!!”
“He has done his job for God and Country. And Ghana is better for it. His honest work has led to a tense election settling very quickly. Things would have been far worse if he had not stamped his feet. And he did all of this without the Police firing any shot!.”
He also mentioned a lawsuit currently before the Supreme Court aimed at preventing the politicization of security head appointments.
He contended that attempting to dismiss any security chief while this case remains unresolved constitutes contempt of court.
“Any such removal can and should be reversed!!! As unlawful and unaware!!!.”
