Local champion- Presidential staffer mocks Togbe Afede after Otumfuor got an invite to attend Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral

Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, has been dragged by a member of the presidential staff, Samuel Bryan Buabeng over an invitation extended to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to attend Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.

Samuel aimed a dig at the popular chief in a post he shared on Twitter saying; “The local champion Efo James and his subjects should continue fighting people over Yam festival donations.”

Before assuming the kingdom of Asogli, Togbe Afede went by the name James Akpo in private.

The phrase “Yam festival donations” also refers to a recent event in which the Asogli State Council openly rejected donations made by a member of parliament from Assin Central to the annual Te Za Yam festival.

Kennedy Agyapong was formally invited, but his donations were turned down with the later justification that he had been invited incorrectly.

Recall that King Charles III of Great Britain has officially invited the Asantehene to attend the state burial of Queen Elizabeth II.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was invited to the lying-in-state of the late queen as well as the king’s reception, state funeral service, and the foreign secretary’s reception, according to the invitation that was delivered by the Protocol Directorate of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the British government on behalf of the king.

It further stated that the Asantehene could bring his spouse or a companion to the state funeral, which is set for Monday, September 19, 2022.
