The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to implement an ambitious $10 billion, 5-year infrastructure investment to improve critical sectors of the country if he is elected president in the upcoming December 7 elections.
Mahama also pledged to complete ongoing projects instead of starting new ones, which is often the practice when there is a change of government.
Ghana has suffered from abandoned projects since the country’s independence, with examples ranging from the $3 billion STX housing deal to the controversial Saglemi Housing Project, which remains under contention.
Speaking at the NDC’s manifesto launch at the University of Education, Winneba, the former president said his administration will “implement a $10 billion, 5-year infrastructure investment in critical sectors.”
He added that his administration will “complete abandoned and ongoing projects instead of rushing to start new ones. We will carry out an inventory of all hospitals, schools, electrification, water, and road projects that have stalled or been abandoned and make annual budgetary allocations for completing them.”
