The spokesperson for the John Dramani Mahama campaign, Joyce Bawa Mogtari is of the view that there is no need for a debate between her candidate and that of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
There have been calls for John Dramani Mahama to debate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
In a recent post shared by Head of New Media for the Dr Mahamudu Bawumia campaign, Krobea Kwabena Asante, he called on the former President to debate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
“For meet the Press, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has one in place already which will come off. Now Mahama and his team should also accept for the One and One debate with Dr. Bawumia. They should take the challenge. The Presidential Debate like Joe Biden and Donald Trump did. They can also add their moderators for this Debate. They can bring Jollof Man, Gyampo and Shamima as moderators.”
She, however, believes that John Dramani Mahama who has a penchant for winning debates judging from his debates with Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Joyce Bawa Mogtari who was speaking to Bernard Avle on Channel One Television when she made this known.
To her, eventhough it is not for her to decide, she believes there is nothing to debate considering a poor run by the current government.
“I personally have no appetite for a debate, I think that we debate when we literally know that our issues are probably parallel…When I look at what we have, when I look at the current trajectory, when I look at the failings of this particular administration, I ask myself why do we need to put up with a debate? But of course, this is a decision that the upper people usually will make.
“It’s not my decision to make, as the debates and conversations go along, maybe eventually some conversations will happen around it, and of course, who knows?
“We do know all about the debates between John Mahama and then candidate Akufo-Addo and we know who won those debates. So, I believe that the fact that Mr Mahama is a man whose energy and knowledge is unparallel is not in doubt. And I’m sure on any day, whomever, I know he’s going to win the debate. But I don’t think that immediately I will want to see that you put them through strict proof first,” she told host Bernard Avle.
