Manchester City Charged For Breaking EPL Financial Rules

The English Premier League has charged Manchester City for breaching numerous financial rules following a four year investigation.

Times (UK) journalist Martyn Ziegler broke the news on Monday morning and claimed the sanctions could lead to points deduction if they are found guilty.

Martyn added that as per Premier League rules the defending champions will not be able to appeal any sanction to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Manchester City rose to the top echelons of English football after the arrival of Gulf base owners, having won six Premier League titles since the takeover.

The Etihad based outfit are yet to win the prestigious Champions League but they have since stamped their authority in the English top-flight as well as domestic titles.

The Sky Blues won four trophies in 2018-19 completing an unprecedented sweep of all domestic titles in England and becoming the first English men’s team to win the domestic treble — all under the tutelage of Spanish tactician Pep Guardiola.

All the successes the club chalked in the last 10 years are in jeopardy following the allegations. If found guilty City could face points deduction, fine or even expulsion from the Premier League.

In a statement, the Premier League said: “In accordance with Premier League Rule W.82.1, the Premier League confirms that it has today [February 6 2023] referred a number of alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules by Manchester City Football Club (Club) to a commission under Premier League Rule W.3.4.

The Premier League Board has referred the case to Murray Rosen KC, who is the chair of the Premier League Judicial Panel. Rosen will form an independent commission that will hear representations from both sides.
