Mepe Ladies FC goalkeeper perishes on Volta Lake

Mepe Ladies goalkeeper Mabel Mawusi Dogah was on her way to Kwahu Afram Plains North with her mother and brother when the awful tragedy occurred on the lake.

Mabel Mawusi Dogah, a young female goalkeeper, was one of the seven individuals who drowned in the Volta Lake last Thursday while crossing from the Volta to the Eastern Region.

The boat hit a storm and sank, killing the seven people on board, including the young player, whose corpse was discovered on Sunday, April 17.

The boat’s passengers were rescued in 13 numbers.

The Volta Regional Football Association announced Dogah’s death: “Our condolences to Mabel Mawusi Dogah’s family, the Ghana Women League, and Mepe Peace Ladies FC.

“Mabel drowned on Thursday, April 14, 2022, and her body was located in the Dzemeni riverbank yesterday, April 17. She was buried the same day she was discovered.

“May she rest in the maker’s bosom.”

Mepe Peace Ladies FC has enrolled for this season’s Regional Division One Women’s League. Dogah was part of the regional FA Cup elimination squad.
