The Metro Mass Transit Limited is a public transportation company in Ghana. The company was set up to provide reliable and affordable means of transport for commuters within villages, towns, and cities as well as provide intercity movement.
Chairman of the Metro Mass transit limited representing the Kumasi branch has made some serious allegations about the MD of the company and spokes person of the NPP who stands as the PRO for Metro Mass as well.
According to the chairman, the managing director is really making their work hard as he refuses to provide spare parts for the maintenance of the buses. He explained that, The MD of the transport business is concerned on his selfish interest alone hence neglecting the business. The chairman made several allegations about the MD of Metro Mass.
Mr. Gyampo made this allegations on Obaatanpa Radio’s Anopa Nkyanya with host Eric Akoto.
He did mention that, because of inflating prices of spare parts, the MD buys the parts in Kumasi, sends it to Accra and then resend it back to Kumasi for use.
Also, the MD always says he is the darling boy of the Minister of Transport in Ghana hence he the MD believes he cant be touched even if complains reach the office of the minister.
Furthermore, Mr. Gyampo stated that, most of the buses are packed due to some minor faults which are not expensive and can be fixed but the MD is acting dead goat on the issues.
When asked about the flow of their salaries as drivers, Mr. Gyampo said, his salary for the pass three months has not been paid, and when they approach the MD and heads of the MMT, they get no proper response from them.
Whiles the interview was going on, The host Eric Akoto made it known to Mr. Gyampo that the PRO of MMT, George Asante, says he (Gyampo) is not being truthful that the transport company doesn’t owe anyone salaries.
Mr. Gyampo alleged that, the PRO George Asante, on a day came to Kumasi to share money to some staff of the MMT and drivers just so they calm down and to inform them that, he is just a messenger sent by his superiors to put a message across on the media so he is not to be blamed when ever he says certain things on radio.
In conclusion, Mr. Gyampo wants the MD of MMT sacked or replaced so they save the transport business. They are currently observing an indefinite strike until the MD is fired.
