The passage of E-levy in the country is creating problems for some mobile money user.
The digital transactions which was staged at 1.7% has now been reduced to 1.5% which means when you send Ghc1000.00, the charge will be Ghc15. If you want the receiver to be able to cash out exactly Ghc 1000.00 then, you have to add Ghc 30 plus the service provider’s chargers.
This is making some people think that, the E-levy is the worst decision which is even against principles of taxation, among other things, they are even taxing capital, hence triggering some people to have problems with the new chargers which will lead to huge financial difficulties due to the current hardship in the country and the only alternative is to deactivate their accounts.
An account holder who goes by the name SEGBEFIA KWAKU DZIEDZORM successful passed through the deactivation process, while he shares his happiness on social media as a prove that he doesn’t like the E-levy.

Seriously he isn’t the only person to have taken this step, other persons have threatened to follow same. The likes of Captain Smart and others are on record to have said they will not use mobile money again.
Although the new charges haven’t started yet, according to the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, the deduction for the e-levy which aim at supporting government projects will take effect from May this year. Almost a month to go and some people can’t wait whether things could change again.
We must not forget that the minority in parliament are heading towards the Supreme Court, who knows things might change.
If you deactivate your MoMo account because of E-Levy, don’t forget that, after the deactivation you lose out on all cashless transactions, you can’t buy ECG prepaid and now you have to step out of your house to pay for everything in person.
Moreover, If you have serious business doing with your momo account you wouldn’t able to access the system.
Deactivation isn’t the best alternative, as for closing your account, you can decide never to send money more than Ghc 100.00 a day.
In my opinion, as real people with vision, sound minded and right thinking Ghanaians, we shouldn’t deactivate our mobile money accounts, rather let support government so we can hold him accountable. I know this one too, shall come to pass.
