Morocco Rescind Decision To Boycott CHAN Tourney

Morocco have made a u-turn on their earlier announcement that they’ll not be competing in this year’s tournament that kickstarted yesterday due to travelling restrictions.

There has been a long standing row between Morocco and host nation Algeria since 2021 over their stance on Western Sahara.

The feud has led to the two countries closed borders and airspace to each other meaning Morocco cannot fly directly to Algeria’s Constantine base for the tournament.

The defending champions pulled out of the tournament due to the travelling restrictions but they have since took back that decision and will now travel to Morocco by all means possible for the tournament.

A statement released by Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, “The Moroccan national team will travel tomorrow to Algeria to participate in CHAN. The departure will be from Salé airport.”

Morocco won the last two editions of the competition which is meant for players plying their trade in their national leagues in the African continent.

Morocco are in Group C alongside Ghana, Madagascar and Sudan.
