NDC Disagree With The Electoral Commission Over Ghana Card

According to the Council of Elders of the National Democratic Congress, the Electoral Commission’s choice to only use the Ghana Card for the voter registration process may prevent many Ghanaians from casting ballots in the general elections of 2024.

The National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, spoke to the media at the party’s headquarters in Adabraka and stated that the new CI wants to fundamentally alter the current system of providing identity for registration purposes.

Ofosu Ampofo claims that the EC intends to use this new CI to do away with the Ghana passport and guarantee system—the two other ways to confirm identity—which prevent many Ghanaians from casting ballots in the 2024 elections.

The Constitutional Instrument that would regulate the Continuous Registration Exercise would be brought before Parliament when the House reconvenes, the Commission stated at a press conference.

Ofosu Ampofo warned the Electoral Commission to quickly reverse their destructive decision; else, the NDC would organize the populace to battle in court to prevent the EC from depriving eligible voters of their right to vote.
