“No One Is Guaranteed A Place In The Squad, Only Senior Players Have Advantage” — Dede Ayew

According to Black Stars captain Andre Dede Ayew, no player is guaranteed an automatic slot in Ghana’s World Cup squad apart from senior players who might have a slight advantage.

Andre spoke in an interview with Al Jazeera where he responded to various questions bordering on the Black Stars participation in the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Inaki Willams, Tariq Lamptey, Ransford Yeboah, Stephan Ambrosius and Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer have all switched allegiances from European countries to Ghana and are in pole position to be in the World Cup squad.

But when the former Swansea City forward was asked about players who have recently switched nationalities to represent Ghana, he said:

“The newcomers are talented, but we already have a strong team that qualified for the World Cup, so every position is competitive. Apart from senior players who may have an advantage, I believe no one is guaranteed a place in the squad just yet”.

On Friday Ghana lost to Brazil in a friendly and will play with Nicaragua on Tuesday September 27 at 18:00 GMT in Spain before squaring off with Switzerland in their last friendly encounter ahead of the intercontinental showpiece.
