The Chiefs and people of the North Tongu District of the Volta region have appealed to President Akufo-Addo to provide adequate security for their Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The North Tongu MP is expected to make an appearance in court on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, in a contempt case brought against him for kicking court documents supposedly served on him in the matter involving himself and Rev. Victor Kusi-Boateng a trustee and secretary to the board for the contentious National Cathedral project.
Mr. Ablakwa in the last few weeks has made several revelations against the Man of God who he believes has been engaging in dubious dealings as far as the cathedral project is concerned.
But at a press conference held at Battor on Sunday, the Manklalo of the Dorfor Traditional Area, Togbe Agbohla VI, revealed that the North Tongu MP has in the wake of events become a target for state-sponsored attacks, machinations, and threats.
“We like to call on His Excellency, the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that it is your institutional duty to protect every citizen of this country, and the situation that we find ourselves in now is so alarming and I’m pleading on behalf of Tongu now that he should provide security for our MP for him to be safe,” Togbe Agbohla VI, Manklalo for Dorfor Traditional Area said.
According to the Chiefs and people of North Tongu, the MP’s anti-corruption crusade has saved the country millions of Ghana cedis, reason he must be celebrated and be given adequate protection by the President.
“Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has constantly worked to protect the public purse and exposed corruption in our collective interest. We in North Tongu believe that his efforts have saved Ghana millions of dollars. This is an exceptional MP who deserves to be celebrated and not vilified or make a victim of devious machinations…” Togbe Agbohla VI, added.
As a way of showing solidarity, a huge number of people from the North Tongu enclave are expected to throng the court premises in Accra on Tuesday as their beloved MP makes first appearance.
