NPP expunges Cecilia Dapaah’s name from its Election Committee

Former Sanitation and Water Resources Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, has reportedly had her name expunged from the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Election Committee.

Per reports, Madam Dapaah’s name has been removed from the members of the NPP Election Committee that is to supervise the party’s internal elections.

Engaging the media at the NPP headquarters on Monday, July 24, Deputy Majority leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who is a member of the Election Committee could not confirm the assertion.

This comes after Cecilia Abena Dapaah was arrested by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

This was contained in a statement from the Office of the Special Prosecutor dated July 24, 2023.

According to the OSP, her arrest involves suspicions of corruption and corruption-related offences, revolving around the alleged theft of significant amounts of money and valuable items from her residence in Accra.

Five individuals are facing charges for their alleged involvement in stealing millions of dollars and euros from the minister’s house at Abelemkpe, a suburb of Accra.

According to Madam Dapaah, the reported amounts of money stolen in the media is inconsistent with the original complaint she filed.

According to Madam Cecilia Dapaah, she decided to resign on July 23, 2023, to prevent this matter from becoming a preoccupation of government and a hindrance to the work of government at such a crucial time.

She also assured of her willingness to cooperate fully with all state agencies to enable them fully establish the facts.

It is expected that investigation by the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, will bring finality to the matter.
