Two constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Walewale, North-East Region, have been suspended with immediate effect due to what the party has described as gross misconduct.
They were suspended along with a party member, and have all been instructed to hand over any party materials they possess while further investigations are conducted.
The suspension letter was issued by Fuseini Nurudeen, the Regional Chairman of the party.
This decision comes days after a High Court ruling in Tamale that ordered a re-run of the Walewale constituency parliamentary primary.
The court found the previous election to be flawed due to irregularities, impersonation, and over-voting.
In response to the court’s ruling, the General Secretary of the NPP announced on Monday afternoon that the party has set the schedule for the re-run.
The timelines are as follows: nomination will open on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, close on Thursday, September 5, and the election will take place on Sunday, September 8, 2024.
