A former National Executive of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the 2024 Flagbearer of the party, John Dramani Mahama of scheming to destroy Ghana’s Justice system.
This comes after Former President John Dramani Mahama accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of appointing cronies to the judiciary.
Speaking at the 3rd Annual Lawyers Conference of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahama claimed that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has deliberately appointed judges who are loyal to him in order to avoid accountability once he leaves office.
He alleged that the NPP government has packed the judiciary with NPP-affiliated judges, with over 80 already appointed and more to come.
He called on NDC lawyers to pursue careers on the bench in order to “balance out” the judiciary.
“Currently, the judiciary is packed with NPP-inclined judges because this government has carried out a deliberate policy of putting their people onto the bench.”
“He has appointed the biggest number of judges onto the bench, it is more than 80 towards 100 and counting. You can see what the current president has done. He has packed the court, and we know they have packed the court because they want to avoid accountability after they have left office.”
Mahama called on NDC members to take up careers on the bench in order to “balance out” the judiciary.
But reacting to this, Samuel Koku Anyidoho who is also the founder and Leader of the Atta Mills Institute, Mahama’s actions show he doesn’t want to win the next elections.
Mr. Anyidoho wrote on X:
“Where is the Flagbearer of the NDC? Is he in Ghana? Or he is speaking from afar via his jaundiced voice to destroy the Justice System of our beloved Motherland? Let him come to Ghana and let’s debate the issues frontally.”
He added: “Honestly, I am getting convinced that JM doesn’t want NDC to win in 2024 because his statements don’t sit well with floating voters. I was a (not the only), architect of the 2008 victory and, NEVER did we get Candidate Atta-Mills to annoy the electorate with unguarded statements.”
