Arriving at Accra’s Kotoka International Airport, Manchester United icon Patrice Evra was met with a rousing reception.
As part of his journey throughout Africa to promote his new book, the former left back touched down in Ghana on Monday night.
The 41-year-old ex-France international has been on a book tour to promote his memoirs, I Love This Game.
TV host Nana Aba Anamoah and a few supporters met Evra at the airport, and the ex-footballer was overjoyed by the enthusiastic welcome.
He also mentioned his excitement at the prospect of trying the Ghanaian staple food, Jollof, which he had only heard about.
“It’s crazy. I didn’t expect this kind of warm reception from all the Ghanaian people,” an excited Evra said.
“It’s my first time in Ghana and I’ll remember that all my life. I love this game. I already feel the love. I’ve been to Nigeria and Senegal and I can tell you this is the best welcome. The next thing to try is the Ghana jollof.”
Many Ghanaian football fans have fond memories of Evra, who once posted a video of comic actor Akrobeto’s Real News.
