Phil Foden Breaks Stunning Lionel Messi Record Following His Hat-Trick Against Man United On Sunday

Manchester City annihilated their fiercest rivals Manchester United in a nine goal thriller in the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Erling Haaland’ scintillating start to life at the Etihad continued as he struck another hat-trick alongside Phil Foden as the Citizens outclassed the Red Devils.

Phil Foden’s hat-trick sees him beat a stunning Lionel Messi record under Pep Guardiola. The England international completed the feat with fewer days younger.

Lionel Messi, now at Paris Saints-Germain thrilled under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola during his formative years at Barcelona. By the age of 22 years and 164 days, the Argentine had already managed to find the back of the net 50 times under the Spanish boss.

Foden has smashed that feat after his historic treble against Man United on Sunday. He managed to score his half-century by the age of 22 years and 127 days leapfrogging Messi in the process.

They have also ensured Manchester City became only the third Premier League team to have two players net hat-tricks in the same match. Arsenal’s Jermaine Pennant and Robert Pires were the first to hit three each against Southampton in a 6-1 victory in May 2003.

While Leicester City became the second with Jamie Vardy and Ayoze Perez also completing the record against Southampton when they thumped the Saints 9-0 in 2019.
